How long can this go on?

Gartner names fastest-growing SAN storage company

And the winner is ..... Compellent, for the second year running, according to Gartner. How long can this breakneck growth continue?

It just recorded a $21 million second quarter and could well be a larger-than $100 million company by the end of 2009. If growth continues at 100% or so a year then it will become a half billion dollar turnover business in 2011. It will be amazing if it does as surely competitive responses to Compellent's growth will start appearing.

By 2011 3PAR and Pillar will also be much larger and the majors, EMC, HDS, HP, IBM, NetApp, and Sun, we can assume, will have responded with their own Compellent and 3PAR-like products, or tried to acquire one or more of them. IBM is already positioning XIV as a 3PAR-basher and EMC will soon turn its competitive mid-range spotlight onto Compellent as well as NetApp.

Great. We'll get cheaper and better and more power-efficient products.
