Brocade's faster switch for popular HP blades
posted on 21 August 2008 10:47
Brocade has launched an 8Gbit/s Fibre Channel switch in blade form for HP's near all-conquering c-Class server blades. This doubles the speed of the existing 4Gbit/s bladed switch.
Naturally it is the industry's highest-performing blade switch, being the only 8Gbit/s one, and has 12-24 ports with 8 for linking to a storage area network (SAN). The 8 SAN ports can be combined in a trunk to provide a 64Gbit/s SAN link to I/O-hungry BladeSystems.
Customers start out with 12 usable ports and then buy a license upgrade to double that to 24.
HP's recent results revealed a 66 percent year-on-year revenue growth rate for its blades. Brocade will be hoping to hitch a ride on this sales rocket and sell lots of its new switches.
