Intel's smaller lighter netbook flash drive

Mini-card module

Intel has launched a small and light mini-card module version of its Z-P230 (pictured below, far left) solid state drive (SSD) for netbooks and mini-desktops.

Its capacity is 4GB or 8GB, with a 16GB version coming, and it weighs 8gm. The original Z-P230 is a 40-pin ZIF module (pictured near left) weighing 11gms. That was, Intel says, a quarter of the size of a 1.8-inch hard disk drive and, obviously, quieter and much less prone to mechanical breakdown.
