Yesterday was EMC CLARiiON CX4 day with a dash of STEC and flash. Here is a quick rundown of other storage happenings:-
EMC CX4-related announcements
- Dell will resell the CX4, replacing the existing EMC CX3 in its product range.
- Fujitsu Siemens Computers will resell the CX4 as its FibreCAT CX4 Series.
- Emulex' LightPulse Fibre Channel HBAs are available and qualified for use with the CX4.
Archiving, Data Protection and Disaster Recovery
- Atempo announced that one of the UK’s fastest-growing managed services providers (MSP), Adept4, has switched to Atempo Live Backup to offer its customers an improved local and remote continuous data protection (CDP) service for their laptops and workstations.
- Double-Take Software now supports Linux as well as Windows servers with its replication and disaster recovery software.
- One Communications, a US privately-held competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC), is using Mimosa NearPoint software for its email data and will use its facilities for archiving, eDiscovery, storage management, and recovery.
Data Warehouse
- Netezza announced that Slovenia’s second largest insurance company, Zavarovalnica Maribor (ZM), has moved its enterprise data warehouse from Oracle to Netezza in order to perform analysis such as long-term car and home insurance trends, not previously possible.
High Performance Computing
- Mellanox announced its ConnectX InfiniBand adapters and switch product technology has been certified with Oracle Real Application Clusters 11g and Oracle Enterprise Linux.
Memory
- Dataram announced the immediate availability of two new memory upgrades for IBM's BladeCenter JS12 blade servers, high-density blade server with POWER6 technology: the 4 GB DRIJS12/4GB and 8 GB DRIJS12/8GB each consists of two DDR2-667 Very Low Profile (VLP) DIMMs. Both upgrades support Memory Scrubbing, ECC, Chipkill, and Bit Steering.
Storage Area Networks
- NetApp will resell and support Brocade's 8Gbit/s Fibre Channel SAN switching products.
- At the San Francisco LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, iSCSI SAN supplier StoneFly will unveil certification with the Citrix/Xen and VMware platforms.
Storage Components
- LSI's next-generation TrueStore PA2700 high-performance, low-power preamplifier IC designed for use in 2.5-inch mobile hard disk drives (HDD) is sampling with some OEM customers.
USB Flash Drives
- Kingston Technology announced a new product in its DataTraveller range – the DT Mini Slim - a fun, compact and colourful way of transporting and sharing music, photos and other digital files, and available in 2GB and 4GB capacities.
Video Surveillance
- FalconStor Software announced a partnering agreement with China Security & Surveillance Technology, Inc. (CSST) to bring SAN virtualization, storage provisioning, business continuity and storage management to the digital video security and surveillance market.
Virtual Desktops
- Symantec is strengthening its endpoint virtualization portfolio by adding presentation virtualization and connection brokering technologies, through the acquisition of nSuite Technologies, Inc., a privately-held virtual workspace management company.
Virtual Tape Library
- Sepaton announced sales of more than $1 million through UK reseller Q Associates, just six months bringing it on board as a reseller in January 2008 to resell its S2100-ES2 virtual tape library.
