DVD data recovery seals guilt of rapist

Seagate Recovery Services works miracle

A Santa Cruz county, Calif., rape case defendent has been been found guilty after Seagate Recovery Services obrtained data from a mal-recorded DVD.

Defendent Michael Barnes was accused of raping a female victimin in January this year. Her testimony was recorded onto DVD via a video camera and video recorder but the recording was not carried out properly and the data was unrecoverable.

Barnes initially pleaded guilty but his defense attorney, learning of the DVD fiasco and after a poor court appearance by the deputy sherrif in the case, said the DVD contained evidence which could clear his client and changed the plea.

The DVD then became absolutely crucial to the case and the district attorney involved tried a Santa Cruz data recovery company but to no avail. Then Seagate Recovery Services came onto the scene via an acquaintance and their experts saw that the data opening and data closing segments of the DVD recording were incomplete. They reconstituted them and the DVD could be read.

When used in the trial the evidence on the DVD clearly implicated the defendant who was found guilty and is currently awaiting sentencing. It is thought he could face up to 24 years in jail.
