46 percent net revenue growth

InfiniBand semiconductor supplier Mellanox announced a a strong set of quarterly results.

In its Q2 '08 period net revenues rose 46 percent from the year-ago quarter's $19.8 million to $28.2 million. GAAP net income was $4.6 million ($0.14/share), down 18 percent from the year-ago quarter's $5.6 million.

Eyal Waldman, chairman, president and CEO, said: “Our eighth consecutive quarter of record revenue highlights the continued growth, design wins and deployment of our leading interconnect adapters and switch silicon in a variety of tier-one OEM systems. During the quarter we announced the availability of InfiniScale IV, our 36-port 40Gbit/s InfiniBand switch silicon, and showcased it with multiple OEM and software vendors running real-life clustering applications. We are seeing large-scale deployments of 40Gbit/s InfiniBand clusters based on InfiniScale IV, such as the Virginia Tech 324-node supercomputer.”

This supercomputer is built using Mac Pro server nodes.

Gross margins in the second quarter were 79.8 percent, compared with 75.1 percent reported in the second quarter a year ago.

The HPC market is growing and the adoption of HPC style processing by enterprises is also helping to increase sales of InfiniBand products.

Mellanox, which says it has 85 percent of the InfiniBand market, gave cautious guidance for the next quarter, predicting earnings at the same level as in Q2.
