Mozy starting to accelerate to a gallop

Doubles its customer base in 6 months

EMC's Mozy consumer and SME cloud backup service has doubled its customer base in the first half of the year.

It now has more than 750,000 users and 20,000 business customers backing up 7.6 billion files to its 10 petabyte storage system. In fact, it says, customer growth in some market segments has quadrupled.

To add to the good news Thrive Networks, a subsidiary of Staples, has signed a contract with Mozy to provide online backup to its customers. This service will also be offered to Staples' customers as Staples Network Services by Thrive. This channels gets added to the existing network of 2,500 resellers and partners.

EMC says that Mozy customers range from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses in most every industry, including General Electric, Vanderbilt University, The University of Pittsburgh, and thousands of other small and medium sized businesses.

With Mozy and Iomega products being integrated as well, it looks as if EMC has another rip-roaring success on its hands. Sheesh, another problem for Joe Tucci to deal with.
