SteelEye casts its replicating gaze on Citrix

Real-time replication for XenServer virtual machines

SteelEye is offering real-time replication for Citrix XenServer virtual machines (VMs) as a disaster recovery measure.

The VM are protected by SteelEye's Protection Suite against server crash or other outages because they can be immediately restarted on a second server with all information up-to-date.

The SteelEye software integrates with XenMotion and XenCenter to fully support manual movement of replicated VMs within a server pool and maintain disaster recovery protection. The Protection Suite is a host-based, storage repository replication product that provides continuous data protection (CDP), change-only replication, integrated compression and an optimized replication engine.

Garrett Gafke, SteelEye CEO and president, said: “The migration of enterprise applications to virtual environments continues at a rapid pace and through collaboration with companies like Citrix, we’re helping customers of all sizes ensure their data is safe and their business operations run uninterrupted.”

SteelEye already and similarly protects VMware virtual machines. It has a DataKeeper offering to provide replication-based DR for Windows Server 2003 and 2008 systems. We might expect Hyper-V support to flow through as a matter of course.

SteelEye Protection Suite for XenServer is available immediately through SteelEye’s global network of value-added resellers and OEM partners.
