2, 4 and 8 GB Memory Upgrades Power Sun Fire X4140, X4240 and X4440 Servers

Dataram announced the immediate availability of 2, 4 and 8 GB memory upgrades for Sun Microsystems' Sun Fire X4140, X4240 and X4440 servers. These Sun severs feature AMD's quad-core processor, codenamed "Barcelona".

Each DRSX4440 memory upgrade consists of a matched pair of PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz ECC Registered DIMMs.

The 1U Sun Fire X4140 and 2U X4240 are two socket servers. Both have 16 memory slots for up to 64 GB of Dataram memory. The X4140 can hold eight SATA hard drives and the X4240 can hold up to sixteen, making them low-cost, high-capacity storage servers.

The 2U Sun Fire X4440 is a four socket server with 32 memory slots for up to 128 GB of Dataram memory and contains up to eight SATA drives.

The systems are available with a choice of operating systems—Solaris, Linux, Windows, and are ideal for virtualisation with VMware.
