posted on 16 June 2008 14:35
Data Domain has added 4Gbit/s Fibre Channel support to its virtual tape library (VTL) as well as announcing new third-party certifications and an improved management interface.
All supported enterprise backup applications can communicate with the Data Domain VTL software over multiple, 4Gbit/s Fibre Channel interfaces for improved performance
The VTL option includes a new intuitive and browser-based GUI for configuration and management. It simplifies provisioning and administration of the tape-library-like artefacts of the standard VTL interface.
Software certifications now include:-
- CommVault Simpana software,
- HP’s Data Protector backup and recovery software,
- Oracle Secure Backup.
In addition, the Data Domain VTL software option has achieved IBM Ready for Tivoli validation for Tivoli Storage Manager.
Brian Biles, VP of Product Management for Data Domain, said: “Through expanded certification, competitive 4Gb Fibre Channel fabric support and an intuitive GUI to help overcome some of the native challenges of the VTL approach, we are making it simpler than ever before for SAN-based customers to take advantage of Data Domain’s high-performance inline deduplication storage for datacentre backup.”
