Xiotech Announces New Magnitude 3D 4000 Storage System Customers

Eden Prairie, Minn.—June 3, 2008—Xiotech Corporation today announced that several new customers have purchased the Xiotech® Magnitude 3D® 4000 storage system.
New customers include Capital Institutional Services (Dallas, Texas), Canutillo Independent School District (Canutillo, Texas), City of Brooklyn Park (Minnesota), Microsoft Corporation - Forefront Division, Microsoft Corporation - Windows Mobile Embedded Systems Engineering, NIX Health Care System (San Antonio, Texas), University of North Texas (Denton, Texas) and Ypartnership (Orlando, Fla.).
Many of the customers cited Xiotech’s capabilities for managing storage in increasingly popular virtual server environments.
Ypartnership, an advertising agency located in Orlando, Fla., purchased a Magnitude 3D 4000 system with TimeScale® GeoRAID™ software to manage both Microsoft Windows and Mac OS data from one system. Ypartnership selected the Magnitude 3D system because it provides seamless efficiency across disparate operating systems, as well as easy system management. Another key factor in the organization’s selection was the GeoRAID application, which provides automatic and uninterrupted availability of data and applications within one storage system.
“We were looking for a flexible and efficient storage solution to consolidate our Macintosh and Windows data while keeping pace with the technology demands of our growing company," said Scott Myers, chief information officer for Ypartnership - worldwide advertising and public relations agency. “With Xiotech's focus on ease of use, and the system’s ability to boot from SAN and provide continuous data availability within one system, we knew we had a solution that would streamline our processes today, yet grow with us for years to come.”
As part of their server / storage virtualization initiative, the City of Brooklyn Park selected Magnitude 3D 4000 with iSCSI based on the system’s simplified administration and ability to reduce overall infrastructure costs.
“We were working with an inefficient and sprawling storage infrastructure and finally got to the point where simply adding more servers and storage was not an option,” said Keith Ehrlichman, IT manager for the City of Brooklyn Park. “We evaluated numerous systems but decided on Magnitude 3D 4000 with iSCSI because it enabled us to consolidate our storage on a single platform as well as reduce our expenses and time spent on administration.”
Another new Xiotech customer, Texas-based Canutillo ISD, needed a storage solution that would provide a solid foundation for their upcoming virtualization and data protection strategies.
“After assessing different vendor options, we determined that Magnitude 3D 4000 would best meet our current and future storage needs,” said Christopher E. Avila, technology coordinator for Canutillo ISD. “Now that we have the Magnitude 3D system in place, we plan to expand and use this storage infrastructure to set up a disaster recovery system, and then eventually move to a virtualized server environment.”
Announced in October 2007, the Magnitude 3D 4000 virtualized platform continues to demonstrate its appeal to midsized organizations looking for easy-to-manage storage systems that will adapt as their needs grow and change. Magnitude 3D 4000, built upon a virtualized distributed cluster architecture, offers exclusive features such as the ICON Manager user interface, automatic storage provisioning through Intelligent Provisioning, advanced reporting with Storage Monitor, and simplified integration and customization with Web services.
“As organizations are increasingly moving to a virtualized environment, managing storage should be a pain-free process and that’s a big reason why customers are turning to Xiotech,” said Mike Hoch, vice president, marketing, Xiotech.
The Magnitude 3D 4000 family of storage systems includes three models, each with unique capabilities in virtualized environments, particularly with the recently announced Virtual View add-on for ICON Manager. Virtual View integrates with VMware ESX Server to report on and automate storage provisioning and management tasks across the array, ESX server and virtual machine storage layers. Additionally, the Magnitude 3D family offers iSCSI and Fibre Channel connections, as well as multiple tiers of storage, enabling organizations to select the network connectivity, capacity, and functionality that best meets their business needs.
