Pah! Who needs hard drives for ultra-mobile PCs?

ASUS has introduced new Eee PC 901 and 1000 ultra-mobile PCs offering solid state drive (SSD) storage combined with a year's subscription to a cloud storage facility. These models are the first to use Intel's new Atom processor.

The latest generation Eee PC 901/1000 products consume less power, boot more quickly, produce less heat and are less susceptible to shock damage. Battery life is up to 7.8 hours.
There is a 20GB Internet storage facility with up to 5GB of downloads a day. Transmitted data is encrypted and both Linux and Windows operating systems are supported. This cloud storage facility compensates for the somewhat limited SSD capacity of up to 80GB.

The new Eee PCs come in six styles created with Infusion casing technology. Inlaid within the chassis itself, the motifs are an integral part of the entire cover and will not fade with time. The Infusion surface is scratch-resistant. Users can choose from Sakura, Sweet Pea, Urban Metropolis, White Peony, Pearl White and Fine Ebony colors.

The Eee PC 1000 has a 10-inch/10.2-inch display and a 40GB SSD. It runs Linux. The similar 1000H model has an 80GB SSD with Windows XP. It can also run Linux. The 901 model has an 8.9-inch display and has a 12GB SSD with Windows XP and a 20GB SSD with Linux.

All models are equipped with 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth.

ASUS sold 1 million Eee PCs in the six months after the product's launch.
