BUFFALO BRINGS AFFORDABLE iSCSI NETWORK STORAGE TO SMALL BUSINESSES
posted on 28 May 2008 11:59
London, UK, 28 May 2008 – Buffalo Technology has expanded its range of SMB and SoHo network storage products to include the TeraStation Pro II iSCSI™.
Available in 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0TB capacities, in desktop and rackmount styles, the device offers small businesses the advantage of high speed data transfer rates over the iSCSI protocol, at an entry level price.
iSCSI storage targets are gaining in popularity, even with small to medium sized businesses. The iSCSI protocol transports simple SCSI storage commands over standard TCP/IP networks. As a result, the iSCSI targets give servers the illusion of being locally attached disks that are directly accessible by the operating system. iSCSI targets can be located anywhere on the network, making it the ideal solution for server backup.
Designed specifically for the SMB and SoHo market, the TeraStation Pro II iSCSI™ also provides a cost-effective option for expanding the capacity of local drives. The total amount of storage available depends upon the RAID mode chosen. This space can be partitioned into a maximum of ten volumes, where each volume can be allocated to an individual PC or server. Each data store acts like a local drive, and can be formatted and managed independently by each client, providing improved flexibility.
The capacity of the device, coupled with data transfer speeds of up to 60MB/s, makes the TeraStation Pro II iSCSI™ the ideal solution for server backup or expanding the capacity of local drives.
The TeraStation Pro II iSCSI™ comprises four high speed SATA hard drives and is equipped with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and Standard. These modes give businesses varying levels of redundancy and/or speed, depending on their specific requirements. It is also available in a rackmount version to meet the needs of businesses with existing 2U, 19” rackmountable servers. A quick-swap hard drive tray accessible via the front panel makes for easy maintenance and the device is virtually silent and designed to release heat effectively.
Gerardine Lynch, Product Marketing Manager at Buffalo Technology, comments, “As the need to store, manage and move large amounts of data continues to rise, small businesses require an affordable, simple and reliable storage solution that addresses their need for high speed data transfer, flexible and expandable storage. The TeraStation Pro II iSCSI is a powerful SMB solution that delivers this extended functionality while still fitting into the budget of cost conscious SMBs.”
The TeraStation Pro II iSCSI™ is available in June from Insight, Misco and PCW Business at a RRP (inc. VAT) of:
