Fujitsu's continuous operation 2.5-inch drive
posted on 19 May 2008 14:52
Fujitsu has announced an enterprise-class 2.5-inch hard disk drive designed for continuous operation.
The MHZ2 BK holds 250GB and spins at 7,200rpm. It is intended to run 24 x 7 in enterprise servers or storage arrays and draws 2.3W. A slower 5,400rpm MHX2 BS draws only 2.1W and is intended for both enterprise and industrial applications. Both use the SATA II 3Gbit/s interface.
Fujitsu says it has minimised rotational vibration to increase reliability. The BS version will be available from May 30th with the BZ variant available in August.
The sales targets are:-
- MHZ2 BK Series: 500,000 units during FY2008,
- MHZ2 BS Series: 1,000,000 units during FY2008.
