EMC will reportedly announce three new deduplicating disk libraries, probably at its EMC World event in Las Vegas next week. They will use Quantum deduplication software.

There are three models in a DL3D range that overlap, in part, EMC's existing VTL setup (with DL standing for Disk Library):-

- DLm 4080 - for IBM Mainframes
- DL 6000 - high-end
- DL4000 - mid-range
- DL210 - entry level

The new models are in a DL3D line, 3D possibly meaning data de-duplication with its three 'Ds':-

DL3D 1500 - entry-level but a mid-range library with 36TB of capacity, 6 GigE ports, 2 FC ports, CIFS and NFS interfaces, optional VTL interface, and a reported 720GB/sec throughput which is, frankly, unbelievable. It translates to 4.32TB/min which is unrealistic - look at the DL3D 3000 throughput number. It's possibly 720GB/hour.

DL3D 3000 - to 148TB capacity, througput of 1.4TB/hour, 6 GigE and 4 Fibre Channel (FC) ports, CIFS/NFS interfaces, VTL option.

DL3D 4000 - enterprise model with to 822B capacity, data ingest rate of 8TB/hour, dedupe and replication at 1.4TB/hour, 8FC ports, no CIFS/NFS, VTL only.

The 1500 and 3000 models compete with Data Domain, overlapping the DD580 and new DD690, and also Quantum's own DXi. The D3D 4000 is a Sepaton and IBM/Diligent competitor and will also compete with Data Domain's DD690.

The web 2.0/cloud computing clustered storage Hulk and Maui products may also be announced next week by EMC.
