CRU-DataPort® Unveils New Hand-Held SATA RAID Device
posted on 28 April 2008 11:43
28 April 2008, London, UK: - CRU-DataPort, a global leader in data security and data mobility solutions, announces the release of the new DataPort® 25 Hand-Held SATA RAID removable drive enclosure.
Constructed with heavy-duty stainless steel, the DataPort 25 line allows users to hot-swap two 2.5" SATA (Serial ATA) hard drives from a 3.5" slot in PCs, servers and other devices such as digital cameras. By adding RAID functionality to this small-form-factor storage device, users will benefit from faster data throughput or increased data reliability.
"The DataPort 25 is unique because of its small size, large storage capacity and rugged design," says Jon Johnson, Executive Director of Marketing for CRU-DataPort. "The added functionality of RAID support will greatly enhance customer applications, which include digital video surveillance capture in military and police vehicles, mass transit such as buses and trains, and digital audio/video capture and editing in devices like portable video cameras."
CRU added a hardware-based RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) chip, that provides four different settings: RAID 0 (Striping) for higher performance, RAID 1 (Mirrored) for data redundancy, Concatenated so the drives appear as a single logical unit and JBOD (Just a Bunch of Drives) for maximum capacity of storage, which can be as high as 640GB based on current drive capacities. RAID levels are configurable on both the removable drive carrier and on the receiving frame, allowing multiple carriers to have different RAID settings. "RAID can help reduce the chance of losing sensitive data due to drive failure," Johnson added. "But that data still needs to be backed up to another storage device for protection against total loss."
The DataPort® 25 Hand-Held SATA RAID removable drive enclosure is available immediately, with end-user pricing of under £125.00
