Buffalo intro's Combo drive with four interfaces
posted on 23 April 2008 13:19
Buffalo is offering a 1TB external drive with multiple connectivity options for PCs and Macs: FireWire 400 and 800; USB 2.0; and eSATA.
The DriveStation Combo 4 TurboUSB has a chassis which includes a heat sink, removing the need for a fan and making the drive near silent in operation. Inside is a 7,200rpm SATA drive and Buffalo's TurboUSB software which is claimed to increase the transfer rate by up to 20 percent compared to other 1TB SATA drive-based products.
The Combo 4 measures 1.42 x 5 x 8.94 inches and weighs 3.09 pounds. The company says it is the most versatile external drive available on the market today.
The existing DriveStation Combo TurboUSB has three interfaces: the two FireWires and USB, and an older enclosure design compare to the more stylish Combo 4.
The DS Combo4 TurboUSB includes AutoBackup software, and 256-bit AES file and folder encryption for Windows users with SecureLockWare. It is pre-formatted out-of-the-box and no drivers are required, making it a plug-in-and-use device.
The street prices are: $149 for the 320GB model (HD-HS320Q) and $189 for the 500GB unit (HD-HS500Q). The 1TB DriveStation Combo4 (HD-HS1.0TQ) will be available later this month at an estimated street price of $349.
