Combat in the cloud

Cloud storage service supplier Nirvanix is offering users a 30 day period free of charges to upload data to new accounts. It is also offering an Amazon S3 migration tool.

Nirvanix offers online storage on its Storage Delivery Network (SDN) which is managed by the company's Internet Media File System. The company states that 'the SDN intelligently stores, delivers and processes storage requests in the best network location ... With the ability to store multiple file copies in multiple geographic nodes, the SDN enables unparalleled data availability for developers, businesses and enterprises."

It says this is a better offering than S3 and gives businesses developing new applications a faster time to market, lower costs and more reliability.

Jonathan Buckley, Nirvanix' Chief Marketing Officer, said: “We found that there are many companies that experimented with cloud storage when there were only one or two choices on the market. They have built up a substantial amount of data online and are looking for ‘best of breed’ now that enterprise-class solutions are available. For a company with just 50 Terabytes of archived data, for instance, this holiday can mean a setup savings of well over $9,000 to move to the world’s fastest, most reliable cloud storage platform in the world.”

The Amazon S3 Migration Tool helps transfer files from Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) to Nirvanix's SDN.

Nirvanix is claiming a spike in traffic and usage since the 30-day holiday release was first announced.
