Windows XP can get Vista-style speed up
posted on 17 April 2008 07:46
Russian supplier Moscow Development Office has released eBoostr 2.0 to speed up Windows XP using Vista speed-up technologies by reducing hard drive accesses.
The application adds ReadyBoost and SuperFetch style technologies as used in Windows Vista to XP. These use spare system RAM and flash memory cards or flash USNB thumb drives as active caches for frequently-accessed files and data.
Windows XP, the developers claim, does not make maximum use of free system memory. The application speeds up application load times and data fetches. It is especially beneficial for notebook XP users as they are restricted by using slower hard drives. An extra benefit is that fewer notebook hard drive accesses means a longer battery charge life.
The software is available for purchase in four versions: "Lite" ($19), "Desktop Edition" ($24); "Laptop Edition" ($29); and "Pro" ($39). Business site licenses and volume discounts are also available.
The software can be downloaded for a free trial. It might be worth a punt to see if it does the business.
