Zero-downtime Pillar Axiom 500MC
posted on 07 April 2008 16:02
Pillar is introducing a new high-end Axiom 500MC product with highly-protected data and up to 1.6PB of capacity.
Expected to be announced this week, the 500MC - MC for mission critical - uses both mirroring and replication to provide very highly reliable data storage. The picture shows two physically separate rack units. The product is built from modular components with included software that provides redundandancy beyond that of the original Axiom 500.
This configuration ensures that as one unit is serviced the other still provides full data services. It also means that customers can readily set up test data environments for their application development or business intelligence work.
Two customer case studies mention the product although there is no result on Pillar's website if you search for it. One states 'The Axiom 500-MC provides continuous uptime and protects against planned and non-planned downtime.'
It says that it achieved a continuous uptime of '24x7x365 system availability'.
The system is monitored, installed and maintained by Pillar Professional Services to ensure it delivers an optimised service for each customer.
It represents competition for EMC's Symmetrix DMX4 1000 and 800 products and a list price of $475,000 has been reported.
