Into the blue: Dell's affordable Blu-ray laptop
posted on 29 March 2008 18:11
Dell has introduced a Blu-ray notebook computer for under $1,000.
The Inspiron 1525, which has a customisable case colour, is fitted with a Blu-ray drive that can also play - and burn - CDs and DVDs. A Blu-ray burner is available. The 50GB Blu-ray capacity compares to a typical 8.5GB DVD and is thus a much better backup medium.
The 1525 has a 15.4-inch display with 720p resolution and an HDMI port for connection to high-definition TVs or high-resolution displays. (720p is a high-definition screen standard with 720 lines of vertical display resolution all updated progressively - the p - and not interlaced.) It also features one button instant access to media files, even if the system is powered off or in its hibernate mode.
Accessories such as an infra-red remote control and noise-isolation headphones are available.
The Inspiron 1525 is priced from $879 and available now in North America and Europe.
