SANbox Stackable Fabrics Scale from Eight to 96 Ports for Pay-As-You-Grow Scalability, Allowing Mac OS X Customers to Build Affordable Storage Networks

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., March 17, 2008 – QLogic Corp. (NASDAQ:QLGC), a leader in networking for storage and high performance computing (HPC), today announced that its SANbox® 5600Q Series Fibre Channel stackable switches are now available through authorized Apple resellers and the Apple Store.

QLogic® SANbox 5600Q stackable switches, combined with Promise Technology VTrak E-Class RAID subsystems, also available now from Apple, make it easy for Apple customers to build affordable storage networks that can scale from eight to 96 user ports.

“The Apple Xserve architecture is highly versatile, complementing not just Mac OS X, but also Windows and Linux based servers,” said Sash Sunkara, vice president of product marketing, QLogic Network Solutions Group. “Our SANbox 5600Q Series switches are the perfect companion to Apple customers who need an easy, reliable means to network their RAID storage. Customers can start with an affordable eight port setup and pay-as-they-grow by stacking up to six switches for a total of 96 ports.”

“One of our biggest challenges is to handle the rapid growth of video files and the toll they take on our storage infrastructure,” said Zed Saeed, senior post production consultant at DigitalFilm Tree. “QLogic SANbox stackable switches and Apple deliver a reliable solution with low cost of entry and modular scalability to keep pace with the never-ending growth of video data.”

SANbox 5600Q Series Stackable Switches - The Ultimate in SAN Scalability

Following the successful model of stackable IP switches, QLogic pioneered the category of Fibre Channel stackable switches with the introduction of the SANbox 5000 Series, the first stackable Fibre Channel switches and the first products to deliver 10Gb Fibre Channel technology. With sixteen 4Gb ports plus a four-pack of high speed 10Gb ISL ports, and entry as low as eight ports with four-port, software-keyed increments and graphical user interface (GUI) wizards, each SANbox 5600Q Series stackable switch provides maximum flexibility for configuring, managing and scaling SANs.
