Data management software provides advanced backup and rapid restoration of CGI data in post-production firm's complex Mac, Linux and Windows-based storage environment

London, UK - 11th March, 2008 - Atempo, Inc., a leading provider of cross-platform data protection and archiving solutions, today announced that CBS Digital, the visual effects and post-production division of CBS Corporation, uses Atempo Time Navigator for the preservation and retrieval of high-value computer generated imagery (CGI) files developed for hit TV shows and movies.

With its powerful data management and restoration capabilities, Time Navigator is an essential component in CBS Digital's deadline-driven environment.

CBS Digital artists create visual effects across the entertainment industry, with the majority of their projects involving television shows and movies. By nature of its production cycle, this type of programming requires the studio to complete data-heavy projects on short deadlines. As a result, CBS Digital needed to find an efficient and sophisticated data management solution that the company could rely on for quick and efficient retrieval of archived effects and frames.

The studio turned to Atempo to manage the 50 TB of data in its complex storage environment. Time Navigator's cross-platform capabilities were a key selling point to CBS Digital, where large blocks of CGI data are moved across multiple Mac, Linux and Windows servers and operating systems on av daily basis. The software's powerful Time Navigation feature gives CBS Digital the ability to rapidly and accurately restore files saved at any point in time from any storage tier.

"Our artists not only create visual effects that require secure back up policies, but they also constantly leverage older digital frames that need to be recovered from our archives in an efficient and timely manner," said John Small, systems engineer at CBS Digital. "Time Navigator gives us the best of both worlds, and has proved to be a reliable and vital tool in our day-to-day operations. It has never missed a beat and has made my job a breeze."

"Like so many businesses in media and entertainment, CBS Digital produces high-value digital innovations that require a sophisticated approach to data preservation," said Karim Toubba, VP of Marketing for Atempo. "Time Navigator has long been established as a valuable solution to Hollywood studios and post-production shops by simplifying the complex data management issues common to the industry. The assurance of powerful data protection and speedy file restoration both reduces and simplifies administrative tasks and allows CBS Digital to focus their efforts on producing more impressive creative content."
