Blu-ray for Xbox and Macs?
posted on 07 March 2008 02:58
According to a report Sony is talking to Microsoft and Apple about incorporating Blu-ray drives in the Xbox 360 and Macs.
Following on from the collapse of HD-DVD as a contender to Blu-ray for the post-DVD optical disk market Sony now has the field to itself with its Blu-ray format.
Microsoft did make HD-DVD available on the Xbox but this has now ceased to be viable following Toshiba's withdrawl from HD-DVD drive supply.
Apple has witheld from making a decision about which high-definition video disk format to support.
Neither Apple nor Microsoft would confirm talks are taking place.
More here.
Separately Sony Electronics CEO Stan Glasgow thinks that a Blu-ray player price of $299 could be reached this year; that's less than a PlayStation3, and a price of $200 reached in 2009.
