Help for EMC staff with high blood pressure

posted on 26 February 2008 21:08

Dear worried of Hopkinton; help is at hand

A collaboration between Boston, Mass-based Partners HealthCare and EMC means EMC'rs with high blood pressure can manage things better.

Under the SmartBeat programme employees suffering from hypertension wear a wireless blood pressure cuff and a communicator unit. This sends blood pressure signals to an Internet-based feedback system which tells them that their pressure is up and they should manage things so as to reduce it - like leaving the quarterly target-setting meeting with their sales team leader, or, indeed, their personal evaluation meeting with HR.

Seriously, employees volunteer for the programme and the idea is that they are better able to manage their own blood pressure.
