INFORTREND EXPANDS ITS SAS PRODUCT LINE WITH AN EFFICIENT NEW RAID ARRAY

Enhanced 12-bay Subsystem Uses Latest SFF-8088 Connector, Saves Energy and Money

Basingstoke, UK, 26th February 2008 – RAID storage expert Infortrend® today announced a new 12-bay, SAS-to-SAS RAID array: the EonStor® (ES) S12S-G1033 single-controller subsystem.

The cost-effective S12S-G1033 joins Infortrend’s growing line of SAS-host products that includes SAS-to-SAS/SATA and Fibre Channel-to-SAS subsystems plus the EonStor B12 systems that support 2.5-inch SAS drives. The entire product family delivers all of the benefits of SAS technology such as greater bandwidth and higher data throughput compared to SCSI-320, providing ample bandwidth and processing capabilities to support massive storage capacities in data-hungry environments.

Similar in design to the ES S12S-G1030, the S12S-G1033 differs from its predecessor in a few key ways. The 1033 model replaces the SFF-8470 with the latest SFF-8088 external mini-SAS connector which supports upcoming 10Gbits-per-second technology and will eventually replace the SFF-8470 in the industry. The S12S-G1033 uses 350W instead of 460W power supply modules that deliver cost and energy savings.

The EonStor S12S-G1033 comes with two SAS wide host ports that provide 12Gb-per-second bandwidth per port for high speed data transfer. The S12S has a built-in SAS expansion port which can connect to as many as four EonStor S12S-J1000-G SAS JBODs for up to 60TB of storage capacity when populated with 1TB SATA drives. As with all EonStor products, the S12S comes with full-featured RAID functionality, including RAID6, to provide the ultimate in data protection and availability.

“By overcoming the limitations of SCSI to achieve better performance, we expect SAS technology to take its place in the mainstream of data storage in 2008,” said Thomas Kao, director of product planning at Infortrend Technology Inc. “The S12S-G1033 strengthens our SAS-to-SAS RAID family with its ease of integration, scalability, and flexibility. This new product will help Infortrend reach its goal of being the first company customers think of when they need SAS-host RAID storage.”

Target Markets and Uses
The EonStor S12S is ideal for DAS (Direct Attached Storage) or other situations requiring dedicated bandwidth for applications such as data mining, medical imaging, scientific research, and security/CCTV. Using SATA drives makes the system a good fit for cost-effective backup or second-tier storage in a storage pool; populating the system with SAS disks increases performance and RAID protection making it well suited for online data transactions and enterprise environments.

EonStor S12S-G1033 Highlights

- 2U, 12-bay, single-controller SAS to SAS/SATA RAID subsystem

- Two SAS wide host connection ports (SAS x 4) provide 12Gb-per-second bandwidth per port for high-speed data transfer

- System throughput greater than 630MBps

- One multi-lane SAS expansion port

- Connect up to four EonStor S12S-J1000-G SAS JBODs to expand storage capacity

- Install up to 60 drives total for 60TB capacity when using 1TB SATA hard drives

- Can intermix SAS/SATA disk drives within the same enclosure—select SAS drives for mission-critical solutions and SATA drives for near-line backup environments

- Support RAID levels 0, 1(0+1), 3, 5, 6, 10, 30, 50, 60

- Infortrend’s proprietary ASIC400 RAID engine supports RAID5 and RAID6 configurations to protect data in the event of drive failure
