GREEN AGENDA DRIVES VIRTUALIZATION AT VMWORLD EUROPE FOR ONSTOR

Stand number 87 Cannes February 26 – 28 2008

ONStor Inc., the leading provider of scalable clustered NAS solutions for the enterprise, will be at the forefront of the green agenda for data centres at VMWorld.

ONStor will be showcasing its solutions to enable companies to dramatically cut power consumption in their IT environment by deploying NAS storage solutions, which have built-in advanced power management and file server consolidation technology.

According to a recent survey conducted by ONStor, it is the CEO and the CIO’s themselves within end user organisations that are driving the green computing agenda. Over 48% of respondents championed green computing within their enterprises, demonstrating to ONStor that the issue is being taken seriously at Board level. In addition, 36% of organisations cited that they have a green initiative in place for the data centre. Others are ready to follow suite.

The key findings of the ONStor research indicated that:

- 48% of European companies are predicting that they will outgrow their existing data centre

- 58% stated that they had already run out of space, power and cooling capacity in the last few months with little or no warning

- Only 35% of organisations questioned had a green initiative in place right now despite the current trends and concerns debated in the market, while 29% said they were talking about it, and a further 29% cited that there had been no discussions to date

Bob Miller, CEO, ONStor, stated: “Green initiatives are sweeping the IT industry with pressure groups such as the Green Grid now taking centre stage in an industry renown for its power consumption. Whilst the vendors appear to be taking this issue seriously the overall end user community is some way behind.”

“We have already announced our Go Green initiative to drastically reduce power consumption in the IT environment by deploying ONStor storage solutions, which have built-in advanced power management and file server consolidation technology. We have responded to the recent Climate Savers Computing Initiative, which calls for computer makers and their customers to adopt technologies that significantly reduce energy consumption. But it would appear from these findings that it will be market and technology drivers that affect change,” he added.
The announcement follows the recent news that ONStor has joined the VMware Technology Alliance Partner Program. The relationship enables ONStor to receive both technical and marketing benefits as it expands its understanding and delivery of VMware Infrastructure solutions.

Roland Voelskow, VP continental Europe ONStor, stated, "ONStor aims to demonstrate at VMworld that our relationship means that customers utilizing VMware infrastructure in their data centers will be able to take advantage of ONStor's highly scalable NAS solution as a centralized data store for virtualized environments. ONStor's combination of availability, scalability and virtualization features makes it a complementary fit for the virtualized data center," added Roland.

ONStor recently announced a new addition to its Pantera line of virtualized storage solutions with the launch of the Pantera 5000. A fortified version of its clustered NAS solution, the Pantera 5000 more than doubles the per cabinet capacity of the Pantera 2000 and offers higher performance to support the large, fast-growing file storage demands of medium to large enterprises and organizations with substantial digital imaging storage requirements.

ONStor's newest product offers storage managers advanced power management; the ability to scale to massive capacities at a greater density; plus file server consolidation features to deliver a greener data center solution via low energy consumption, a reduced footprint, and lower cooling costs.
