Financial heavyweight joins office of the chairman
EMC chairman, president and CEO Joe Tucci has appointed a new EVP in the office of the chairman. Harry L. You will report direct to Tucci.
What are his duties? EMC is vague, saying he will: "focus on helping accelerate EMC's key growth and efficiency initiatives leveraging his deep background in IT services, finance and investment banking." It sounds like he's a very high-level Tucci bagman. You is a former Oracle CFO and most recently a BearingPoint CEO so he knows about large IT company politics and how to get things done. He is 48 years old and so has lots of energy left. He joined Accenture before Oracle to assist with its IPO after becoming a business unit MD at Morgan Stanley, a VP at Salomon Brothers and an SVP at Lehman Brothers.
That's an awful lot of financial experience. Is his appiontment something to do with lifting Oracle's share price which many people think under-prices the company?
Tucci said in an EMC statement: "As we continue to invest in new, high-growth markets, expand our partner ecosystem, and optimize our capital structure, we also continue to attract and secure experienced senior talent, adding depth to an already solid executive management team. I am delighted that Harry You is joining our team. Harry, whom I've known for years, brings to EMC fantastic operational and business expertise. His experience managing complex, growing global businesses and his vast knowledge of the capital markets will help to serve EMC, our customers and shareholders in the years ahead."
You's quoted comment was: "I am delighted to work with Joe and the EMC management team to capitalize on new growth opportunities and deliver additional value to our shareholders."
If he works out then the shareholders will certainly be pleased.
