The European Green IT Summit
from 13 Mar 2008 to 14 Mar 2008
The European Green IT Summit, 13th and 14th March, 2008, takes place at the Sheraton Park Lane, London. Here is how it is described:-
Environmental and climate change issues are affecting all our lives today, and there is a tsunami of marketing around 'green' both from the vendor community and their customers. But how do these issues affect businesses today?
Lansdown Event Management invite you to attend the European Green IT Summit, which will show you the real, pragmatic things that can be done today to benefit both businesses and the planet. Green IT is not just about technology – lessening the negative impacts (like the carbon footprint of energy usage) – it's also about applying IT positively to help support individual behaviour change, and to lessen the overall environmental impact of doing business, from supply chain to business travel, from production methods to office design. At this summit, business leaders and decision makers will share their insight and experience; showcases will demonstrate greener technology, more resilient in an uncertain energy future; and awards will highlight best practice.
The summit includes key note presentations from
* Stephen Singer, Head of European Climate Change and Energy Policy Unit, WWF UK;
* John Doyle, Sustainable Development Policy Co-ordinator, Information Society DG, European Commission;
* Martin Blake, Head of Social Responsibility, Royal Mail;
plus speeches from Citigroup, American Express, IBM, and Marks & Spencers executives (for a full list of speakers visit the conference website).
Award nominations for the inaugural European Green IT Awards are open until 18th February 2008. These will recognise the companies and individuals that have demonstrated innovation and drive in Green IT, with categories including Green IT supplier of the year award and CIO leader – driving change in Green IT. Guest dinner speaker Pen Hadow, Arctic Explorer and Environmentalist will deliver an entertaining and provocative speech about his record breaking polar trips and his work to investigate the consequences of climate change, both for the polar ice caps and the wider world.
