Lewis Winning Joins Pillar

posted on 11 February 2008 12:00

Another (HDS) one bites the dust

Fresh on the heels of losing Scott Genereux to Data Domain, HDS has just lost its VP world-wide sales to Pillar Data.

Genereux was EVP and GM, world-wide sales, marketing and support. Lewis Winning reported to him as VP world-wide sales, and has now jumped ship to join Pillar. There he becomes VP world-wide sales operations and reports to Curt Wittich.

Wittich and Winning should already know each other was Wittich was SVP and GM for the at HDS until June, 2007, when he joined Pillar Data.

Curt Wittich said: “It’s an exciting time to be at Pillar, coming on the heels of the company’s announcement on Application-Aware Storage. Over the last several quarters, Pillar has attracted the top talent in the storage industry, and this appointment demonstrates the company’s continued market traction. We welcome Lewis to our team and look forward to seeing further adoption of Pillar as the Application-Aware Storage solution of choice for enterprises worldwide.”

The company said the appointment strengthens Pillar’s sales operations, and follows on a year of unprecedented growth and innovation where the company closed 2007 with more than 300 customers and 500 systems shipped worldwide.

Wittich and Bob Maness, VP Marketing, both joined Pillar when the previous sales and marketing head, Brenda Zawatski, ex-Sun Microsystems, left. It looks as if HDS is a fertile recruiting ground for storage executives, following on from Dave Roberson’s departure as HDS’ CEO in June 2007. That makes four senior executives who have left HDS in a little over six months, three of them from sales.

Is there a problem there?
