LightPulse HBAs double their speed

COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 6, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Emulex Corporation
(NYSE:ELX) today announced availability of its LightPulse(r) LPe12000
family of 8Gbit/s Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs), which provide
enhanced I/O performance and features that extend the benefits of
server virtualization and meet the increasing demands of large
transactional databases.
The Emulex LPe12000 family of HBAs offer twice the performance of
today's leading products, providing the I/O scalability necessary to
support an increase in the number of applications running on a
virtualized server. Leveraging these new products to consolidate
additional applications onto fewer physical servers increases the
benefits of server virtualization, such as reduced procurement and
management costs, as well as lower power and cooling costs.
Additionally, the LPe12000 provides the increased I/O processing speed
and throughput needed by large business-critical databases and
transaction processing applications to scale to support additional
users and larger database files. With innovative features such as
end-to-end data protection and advanced CPU off-load, the LPe12000
family meets the demanding requirements of next generation database
applications.
"Capturing 13 design wins for our 8Gbit/s products reinforces our
leadership position with this generation of products and demonstrates
the demand for advanced storage capabilities and features, such as data
integrity and authentication, that only Emulex is providing to its end
user customers," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide
marketing, Emulex Corporation.
"It is clear that our customers are focused on consolidation via virtualization, as well as leveraging
multi-core and bladed servers, and Emulex is seamlessly delivering the
enhanced functionality and bandwidth required with its 8Gb/s product
family while providing seamless integration within their existing
environments."
Virtualized servers running multiple applications, and
business-critical database engines, require additional protection
against data loss and security breaches, because the cost of such
failures is high. Emulex's LPe12000 family of HBAs incorporate the
enhanced security and data protection features needed to meet the
demanding requirements of virtualized servers and business-critical
applications in the data center.
The Emulex LPe12000 product family provides the following benefits:
* Increased performance and scalability with emphasis on virtualized
environments:
* Increased performance for the Fibre Channel network (8Gbit/s)
and server bus (PCI Express 2.0)
* Accelerated response time, even when attached to 4Gbit/s
fabrics due to faster on-board processing
* Server CPU offload with Message-Signaled Interrupts eXtended
(MSI-X)
* Hardware acceleration for virtual fabrics
* Advanced protection of corporate information assets:
* Data integrity protection (BlockGuard)
* Authentication
* Cost of ownership and investment protection:
* Scalability from the smallest to the very largest
environments (increased number of configurable storage
devices, of NPIV virtual ports, and of simultaneous exchanges)
* Enhanced power and cooling efficiency
* Common driver leveraging Emulex service level interface (SLI)
* Support for PCI-Express 1.0 and 2.0
* Auto speed negotiation to 2Gbit/s, 4Gbit/s and 8Gbit/s for
interoperability with legacy devices
* Enhanced maintainability:
* Advanced diagnostics on optical transceivers
* Enhanced non-volatile error logging
* High-temperature alerts and extreme temperature auto-shutdown
"The introduction of 8Gbit/s HBAs by Emulex is a crucial next step
towards increasing network capacity for next-generation data centers,"
said Arun Taneja, founder and consulting analyst, Taneja Group
"Further, as virtualized server environments and databases continue to
grow, Emulex's 8Gb/s HBA technology provides the vital protection
against data loss and security breaches that enterprises require."
Designed to maintain backward compatibility with existing 4Gbit/s and
2Gbit/s Fibre Channel products, Emulex PCI Express 2.0-based 8Gbit/s HBAs
enable a seamless transition to next-generation SANs.
Further, Emulex HBAs provide driver compatibility across all generations of Emulex
HBAs, making the incorporation of the LPe12000 family into existing
environments seamless.
